Almost 100 friends, family and keen readers joined me for the launch of my first novel, THE SECRET MOTHER, this week. I felt very blessed by the company of those close to me.
After nearly a decade in the making, I finally did it! Note to self: do not give up on your dreams!
Huge thanks to Urmston Bookshop, for selling books on the night. Their shop is a treasure trove of beautiful books and it’s a rare occasion that I manage to leave without buying one, (can I call that my occupational hazard now?).
The very talented singer/songwriter Katie Ritson played live for guests. Katie, a fellow Mancunian, recently released her debut EP, HOME – do check her out on iTunes, her voice is heavenly. Autumn is obviously the best season for creativity!
Kate Horsley, author of THE MONSTER’S WIFE was the best interviewer I could wish for on the night. Not only was she an amazingly calming presence to me, her questions were insightful and thought provoking. Kate and I met on our MA in Creative Writing year at Lancaster University. She dazzled me with her lush prose style and continues to inspire.
Now the launch is over, the wine drunk, the books sold out, the dress stored away I can’t help but wonder what my first readers are thinking to The Secret Mother… That’s the reader’s cliff hanger for me, the author!
