Ni Hao: Hi!

Victoria Delderfield grew up on the edge of the North York Moors where her parents bought a field and built her childhood home in the seventies. Her entire family lived within a five-mile radius.

In 1997, she left Yorkshire to study for a BA in English and French at The University of Manchester and gained First Class Honours. There she met her husband and became a Christian. After a year spent living in Burgundy, she returned to work for the UKs largest adult hospice and then as a Marketing Manager for Henshaws Society for Blind People.

In 2007, she began full-time her MA in Creative Writing at Lancaster University. Her debut novel, The Secret Mother, won the Hookline Novel Competition in 2014 and was voted a winner by UK book groups. It will be available soon in paperback and e-book format, published by Hookline Books.

Victoria lives in Manchester with her husband and is a full-time mum to their two boys. As well as writing, her interests include: contemporary fiction, film and cookery.

What a beautiful book, I’m astounded at your grasp of Chinese culture and the special circumstances of the migrant workers. My daughter lost her parents in a fire, we were close to them and she walked into our hearts, and into my life legally making me a mommy at 65 !

Thank you Anjana! I am very touched to read your response to The Secret Mother. I found the research aspect of novel-writing to be absorbing and eye-opening. Wishing you and your family all the best for the future, Victoria x
